Philosophy of Science 1

Tutorial schedules

Note that all students are required to do the reading for the tutorials. On the basis of your reading and the lectures, each student should also write down, before the tutorial, one or two questions, criticisms or points perhaps requiring clarification. I will be asking you for these at the beginning of the class.

Each Philosophy of Science tutorial will be be on one of the topics from the list on the Tutorial Topics page, which also gives the required reading for the topic, an indication of what you should understand about the topic when you have done the reading and atteneded the tutorial and, where available, the worksheet for the tutorial and some sample answers to the worksheet.

Under each topic heading is a list of one or more aims. These are usually things that you should - hopefully - understand after doind the reading and attending the tutorial. It is worth taking a look at them both before and after doing the reading and attending the tutorial, and considering whether you think you have achieved them. If not, then perhaps some more reading and thinking is in order!

Where there is a worksheet for the tutorial, there will also be a link to that under the reading for that subject. If this is available before your tutorial (and, whilst I'd like to make sure this is the case for all of you, I'm afraid it's going to depend on how much time I have to spare), you can use the worksheet to help focus your reading. After all groups have had a tutorial on the topic, I will also try to publish some sample solutions to each worksheet.

To find out which topic your group will be covering in each week, select the appropriate group from the menu to the left or the list below. Within your group's tutorial schedule, the title of each topic is a link to the reading and information on the topic on this page.
