• Edinburgh Philosophy Vade Mecum: A philosophy handbook, including a glossary and information about writing philosophy essays. Much of it hasn't been updated for a while so a number of links don't work, but it's still very good.

Reading and writing philosophy

• Philosophy essay dos and don'ts: A few simple guidelines I've put together, inspired by a document compiled by fellow Edinburgh tutors Ezio DiNucci and Conor McHugh.
• Guidelines on writing a philosophy paper: Tips on writing philosophy from James Pryor of Princeton University. Though this is intended for Princeton students the vast majority of what he says, including remarks on how essays will be graded, is relevant to University of Edinburgh students.
• How to read a philosophy paper: On the same website, James Pryor has also published some guidelines for reading philosophy.
