Logic 1

About this site

This site is intended for University of Edinburgh students in Zoë Payne's tutorial groups for Logic 1 (in 2005/06 that's tutorial groups 5 and 8). Some general course and tutorial information is given below, and the menu to the left includes links to a list of useful web sites for this course, tips for students struggling with logic, some handouts explaining basic tasks in logic and a list of links to past Logic 1 exam papers.

You can email me using the link at the top of the menu to the right. The menu also includes links to some generally useful external sites, including the home page for Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. Click on a category heading to expand the menu of links in that category.

Course and tutorial information

The Logic 1 course website: Make sure you check out this site for the course guide, lecture notes, exercises and exercise solutions, as well as some additional useful information.

If you are registered for Logic tutorials it is important that you attend. The Logic course is fairly straightforward, but each week builds on the previous work so if you get behind at the beginning it will be hard to catch up. Attending lectures is essential, but lectures alone will not give you the practical experience that is needed to really make the subject click.

If, for any reason, you cannot attend a tutorial then please email me to let me know why. If you do not, then your absence will be marked as unexplained, and if you have unexplained absences then you may not be able to get an exemption from the degree exam.

Exercise solutions

Solutions for exercises from week 3 onwards can be found on the Logic 1 course website. W2 exercise solutions are on this site.
