ECCO
ECCO - Evolution of Capital Creation Options - is a procedure for
determining the growth potential of an economic system in the
context of user-defined policies, environmental objectives and
technology options. It effects this procedure through a dynamic
holistic model based on the principles of Natural Capital
Accounting (NCA).

Thus ECCO can be used by governments, industrialists,
environmentalists and others to test the longer term outcome of
policies. In this way, too, it can assist the search for
strategies that could lead to sustainable development.

How ECCO Works
Sustainable Europe?
"Modelling a socially and environmentally sustainable Europe" is
a project funded by the European Commission under its Targeted
Socio-Economic Research Programme (SOE1-CT96-1018).

The project's aim is to develop an ECCO model of the European
Union countries at an aggregate level; to make an energy and
material flow analysis; and to provide a tool helpful to decision
makers, especially in respect of technology options and
employment consequences.

New Book

Look out for the book "The management of greed", due out
in mid-1997. This book uses various ECCO models to critically and
quantitatively examine some of the popular or conventional
solutions to the sustainability issue, and shows how few of them
will actually achieve their objective, and what has to be done to
move present-day economies towards a more sustainable state.
The title gives away the solution!
