Clusters

TOF/TOF-MS of Metal Clusters produced using PACIS

Linear TOF Mass Spectrum of Platinum Clusters obtained using PACIS - August 1999

See caption below

This spectrum was obtained by applying 400 Volts to the platinum rod. A 200 us, 20 bar, pulse of Helium was applied simultaneously. The cluster ions formed were pulse-accelerated to 3 kV and flown in the linear time of flight (TOF1) mass analyser. In the spectrum shown above, the monomer peak is very intense. Cooling of the PACIS block with water or liquid N2 may enhance the clustering process so that higher cluster sizes may be more prominent in the spectrum.
