Research experience X-ray diffraction at extreme conditions - high pressure, high and low temperatures - in condensed matter using laboratory and synchrotron radiation sources and diamond anvil cells. Sample preparation for high-pressure experiments, use of diamond anvil cells. Powder x-ray diffraction in energy and angle-dispersive mode, with image plate and CCD detectors. Single-crystal x-ray diffraction. Nine years of experience using synchrotron facilities: DESY (Germany), SRS Daresbury (UK), ESRF (France) and APS (USA). Analysis of x-ray diffraction data from crystals and powders, including aperiodic structures; structure solution and refinement. Superspace analysis of incommensurately modulated crystal structures. Effects of pressure on crystal and electronic structure of elements, binary alloys and compounds. Solid state physics and chemistry. Raman spectroscopy at high pressure. Inelastic x-ray scaterring at high pressure. Teaching experience University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK Geophysical Laboratory, Carnegie Institution of Washington, Washington DC
