This page gives information on two types of funding. The section on studentships and scholarships is aimed at those considering study for an MSc or PhD in PPLS at Edinburgh.
The section on research support lists sources of funding for students currently studying in PPLS; these are sources of funding for participant fees, conference travel, and similar activities.

The ORSAS award covers the difference between overseas and home fees. Students have to meet their own maintenance costs.
Details of the award and the student guide should be obtained from the Scholarships and Financial Aid Office
There are two types of awards: studentships and scholarships. A studentship pays home rate fees and approximately £s;7000 maintenance per annunum. A scholarship pays home rate fees only. Both can be awarded to overseas students, but they are expected to meet the remainder of the overseas fee element (one possibility for obtaining the extra funding is an ORSAS award).
Information on other sources of funding for postgraduate study is available at the Scholarships and Financial Aid Office Website.
Students in psychology can apply to the Psychology Bench Fees Fund to help support and promote research work (e.g., the fund might be used to pay participant fees, attend conferences, or visit other scholars). The Bench Fees policy and application document has details of deadlines and restrictions on applications.
All PhD students in PPLS can apply to the PPLS Small Grants Fund to help support and promote research work (priority is given to support of conference attendance). The PPLS Small Grants policy and application document has details of deadlines and restrictions on applications.
PPLS PhD students who receive an ESRC studentship have a substantial research training support grant held in their name by the school. They can claim from the ESRC RTSG Fund to help support and promote their research work (e.g., pay for participant fees, attend conferences, visit other scholars). The PPLS ESRC RTSG policy and claim form document has more details.
