Is this a conversion course for people without a psychology background.

No, the MSc by Research is for those who have a knowledge of the subject matter of psychology, but who are interested in learning how to do psychological research. The British Psychological Society Website provides a comprehensive list of psychological courses in Britain.

What are the entry requirements?

We normally require a good undergraduate degree in psychology or a closely related discipline or with some other substantial training or knowledge in a psychological field.

My degree doesn't fit the bill. Do I still have a chance?

Yes. We also consider applications from students who can demonstrate general academic excellence and interest in the topic. You are strongly encouraged to contact the programme director if you fall into this group.

Where can I get the application form?

It's available online near the bottom of the course homepage.

When does the course run?

From mid-September until the end of August the following year.

Are there English language requirements?

Yes, and they are explained here. It is important that you have a good command of spoken and written English. In particular, if you are not comfortable with writing academic reports in English, we recommend you to try to improve your skills before arrival in Edinburgh. There are courses offered by the university that run a few weeks before the term start.

UK/EU students are eligible for a 1+3 scholarship funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). Our MSc in Psycholinguistics is recognised by ESRC as a target of this scholarship, which will support your MSc (1 year) and PhD (3 years) studies. If you are interested in applying to the scheme, please read these instructions. You can also find relevant information on the ESRC webpage. In addition to the 1+3 scholarships which are allocated to the programme, there are a limited number of ESRC awards provided through an open competition.
