Kultaranta - Our Log Cabin or The Summer 'Cottage'
<
This - 95 built log cabin style 'summer' cottage, 20 meters from the lake, is
also well equipped for winter use and includes indoor sauna
+ shower facilities. It is fully furnished with an open plan lounge and kitchen
area, 1 double bed room downstairs and an indoor balcony upstairs to accommodate
for e.g. 2-3 children or 2 adults. We would highly appreciate if you could refrain
from smoking and keeping pets inside the cottage.
The lake and sauna sides of the cabin
are surrounded by a spacious terrace with a view to the lake, also suitable
as also suitable extra storage (or freezer space !) during the winter or as
a pleasant sitting and dining area during the quiet days and light nights of
the finnish summer. On the forested side, there are only a small curious hut
named as 'the hotel of relief', more popular
during summer and a wood shed, to represent the finnish forest dwelling culture.
Joys of the Four Seasons<
Finnish climate maybe harsh in winter
but the distinctiveness of the four seasons is the best asset it offers.
The Finns usually find many different outdoor activities, normally to do either
with the lakes or the forests.

SUMMER |
AUTUMN |
WINTER |
| flush of the nature, bright greens and songs of the streams... | with midsummer sun and warm lakes to swim in it's hot, believe it or not ! | landscape is a colour palette and forests are berry & mushroom lovers paradise... | magiclike white snow covered ground and clear starlight skyes might show the northern lights ! |
Swimming (summer or winter) is most
enjoyable with direct access to the sauna heated by wooden logs.
During the summer a rowing boat and fishing rods are provided.
If you are not a fan of dipping in cold pools, you might find looking out for the northern lights (Aurora borealis) a better option during dark winter days with clear skies. Most of the time during the winter it is possible to go ice skating or walking on the lake and use the scarce daylight hours to try ice fishing from a hole through thick ice. Snowmobil rental or rides maybe arranged. The nearby national park also offers various walking paths and cross country skiing routes, and the closest downhill skiing centre is in Saarijärvi.
Please let us know which activities you are interested in so we can make arrangements for your equipment.
One of the most impressive attractions of the area
is the Pyhä-Häkki
National Nature Reserve situated only a couple of kilometers from the cottage
along forest tracks as shortcut route.
Rates & Facilities< back to top>
My parents occasionally let this property for €
35 per day. Midsummer and Christmas time are the most popular seasons in Finland
and thus reservations for June and December may require a small deposit.
The log cabin is not part of any tourist complex but a private holiday home
on family estate. It is located in very rural surroundings, far from any services
and thus you will need to bring all fresh food supplies, although typical dry
products are available.
The rental includes electricity and water as the cottage is fully equipped with
modern conveniencies for e.g. oven & hob, fridge & freezer, TV and dishwasher.
In addition to central heating, there is also a traditional indoor heating stove/fire
place.
All linen, towels, sauna fabrics and firewood are provided.
Where & How to get there ?< back to top>
The
cottage is situated within the area of the village HÄKKILÄ (blue dot
on map 1.), in the part called PELTOKYLÄ directly at the shore of the lake
SUOJÄRVI (the first single lake, directly north east from Häkkilä,
between the two small red roads), about 30 km from the nearest town center SAARIJÄRVI,
which is also the nearest place for shopping.
The area belongs to the district of KESKI-SUOMI i.e. central Finland, with university town JYVÄSKYLÄ (~ 70 km from Saarijärvi) as it's main commercial center (no. 2 on map 2).
The closest international airport is in TAMPERE
(~ 200 km from Saarijärvi) although the finnish capital HELSINKI (~ 350
km or 5 hrs drive from Saarijärvi) still provides the most frequent international
flight connections.
