Notes

It is assumed that numbers were allocated serially at the time instruments were ordered (usually in batches) from the factory. In no case is the date known precisely when an instrument was either ordered and numbered, or completed ready for tuning and inscribed.

For instruments with serial numbers below 18361, the latest possible date it was numbered by (consistent with the inscription) is given, together with an estimated year based on plausible annual production figures.

For instruments with serial numbers above 18360, extant workshop books record the dates of tuning and despatch: the 'numbered by' date is here the earliest date (tuned or despatched) for instruments in the batch, or in any subsequent batch if earlier.

'S/P A' denotes 'First Quality Plating with Burnished Bells and Mounts'; 'S/P B' denotes 'Second Quality Plating with Burnished Bells only'.
